In this class we will talk about the history of maple syrup making in the region. Then we will learn to identify maple trees in the winter and once identified everyone will get a chance to tap a tree. As we will learn in the class, sap flow is very weather dependent, so there may not be the opportunity to see sap flow or to boil any sap, but all the steps of the process of making syrup from sap will be covered. We will also talk about taping Black Walnut trees for syrup and compare the process. Class is limited to 15 participants. Class runs from 9:30a-12:30p.
